The Chairman, Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations (CDAs) Forum, Dr. Billy Ishaya La’ah, has expressed gratitude to Senator Sunday Marshal Katung, SMK, for his commitment to the long-awaited construction of the Kwassam-Geshere-Mariri road, describing it as a "dream come true" for the people of Kauru.
Speaking during a press briefing, Dr. Billy highlighted the developmental challenges that have plagued Kauru LGA for decades, particularly the lack of good road infrastructure which has severely hindered access to essential services, markets, and economic opportunities.
“This road, which links communities across the three chiefdoms in the local government area—Kauru Emirate, Kumana Chiefdom, and Chawai Chiefdom—has been a major concern and a nightmare to the people,” he said. “Despite repeated attempts by successive administrations, the project remained abandoned, worsening each rainy season and impacting the lives and economy of our people.”
Dr. La’ah revealed that the recent engagement between the Southern Kaduna CDAs, led by Mr. Bature Likoro, and Senator Katung in Abuja, yielded positive results. The Senator reportedly assured the group that all necessary arrangements had been made for the re-award of the road project, including the construction of the dangerous Kiban Gari bridge.
He said the Senator identified the Northwest Development Commission as a potential funding partner and reaffirmed his resolve to deliver the project in record time.
“The construction of this road will bring unity, economic growth, and relief to our people. Communities that have remained cut off during the rainy season such as Nasarawan Kadage, Kakude, Kwassam, Fadan Kaibi, Kibangari, Geshere, Chakara, and Mariri will finally breathe a sigh of relief,” Dr. La’ah noted.
The CDAs chairman appealed to the Kaduna state and federal authorities to ensure that the road is constructed to the highest standards, adding that the completion of the ongoing Pambegua-Kauru road would further transform the LGA headquarters.
The Forum also appealed for the extension of the Kwassam-Mariri project to cover the stretch from Kauru town to Kwassam to ensure seamless connectivity across the region.
Dr. Billy noted that beyond improving transportation difficulties , the road project will also enhance security in the area by opening up previously isolated communities frequently targeted by criminals.
"As a people, the flag off and earnest construction of the Kauru-Kwassam-Geashere to Mariri road which has been the cry of the community over the years, will not only alleviate our transportation and communication difficulties, but foster socioeconomic development and reduce the insecurity that has continue to bedeviled the area because of the hard to reach communities that are frequently been attacked by the criminals." he noted.
“Once again, we sincerely thank Senator Katung for his visionary leadership and deep understanding of our plight. We look forward to continuous collaboration and development in Kauru and the entire Southern Kaduna region,” he concluded.
