Over two hundred residents of Sabon Gero community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have benefited from a free medical outreach organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter.
The outreach, which focused on women and children, offered free medical screenings, tests, consultations, and drugs to residents who often face challenges accessing quality healthcare. The program included eye and ear check-ups, malaria and typhoid tests, deworming treatments, distribution of sanitary pads, paracetamol, vitamin supplements, and other essential medications. Drugs worth over five hundred thousand naira were distributed at no cost to the beneficiaries.
Speaking during the event, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kaduna, Comrade Sahura Jibrin Maidoki, said the initiative was part of the association’s continuous effort to support communities in need by providing essential healthcare services. She explained that the outreach was anchored on the belief that health is the foundation of human existence and development.
“Our goal is to make healthcare accessible to people who may not have the means to visit hospitals or buy drugs,” she said. “Health is essential to life, and we are happy to contribute to improving the well-being of our communities.”
Comrade Maidoki expressed satisfaction with the large turnout, describing it as a reflection of the trust and impact NAWOJ has built through its humanitarian programs. She commended members of the association and the executive council for their dedication and teamwork, which ensured the success of the initiative.
During the medical exercise, a child requiring urgent medical attention was identified. The NAWOJ Chairperson assured that the matter would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for swift intervention.
She also appealed to the Kaduna State Government to partner with NAWOJ in future health and social programs, noting that collaboration with media practitioners could enhance the reach and impact of public health initiatives. Maidoki reaffirmed the association’s commitment to initiating and sustaining projects that directly benefit the people.
In her remarks, former NAWOJ Kaduna Chairperson, Mrs. Jummai Yarima, applauded the current leadership for sustaining the association’s legacy of community service. She encouraged the executives to maintain the momentum and continue touching lives through impactful programs.
The Secretary of NAWOJ Kaduna, Comrade Hadiza Abdullahi Bello, also acknowledged the support of the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, ENT specialists, Sight Savers, and iMac for their partnership and contributions to the success of the event.
Representatives of the Sabon Gero community, including the Ward Head and Youth Leader, expressed gratitude to NAWOJ for the medical intervention. They said the outreach had brought relief to many families and urged other organizations and individuals to emulate the gesture by investing in community health initiatives.
The Kaduna NAWOJ free medical outreach stands as another example of the association’s commitment to social responsibility, women’s empowerment, and community health promotion across the state.
